Adventurers, the Turner Twins will attempt to set a hydrofoil speed boat record from Land’s End to John O’Groats using the foiling Mantaray M25 boat powered by a Suzuki engine that will push the boundaries of hydrofoil technology while testing the performance of sustainable fuel technologies on this pioneering voyage.
September 2026: Professional adventurers Hugo and Ross Turner, better known as the Turner Twins, will begin a pioneering project to set the length of Britain hydrofoil speed record. The challenge will see them take on one of the UK’s most iconic journeys by water, aboard a Mantaray M25.
The route will take the twins from Land’s End to John O’Groats, a distance of over 1200km or around 650 nautical miles with the challenge expected to take around 38 hours to complete, with refuelling and supply stops at Holyhead and Oban.
The boat will be powered by a Suzuki 100hp engine allowing the boat to fly above the water at up to 35 mile per hour. The engine has special features- such as lean burn, so as the boat travels at continuous speed, it reduces fuel usage.
The record attempt will explore the use of sustainable fuels in high-performance marine applications, with SUSTAIN supporting the team with its C70 racing fuel, as it looks at alternative fuels to help reduce carbon emissions. The fuel blend contains second-generation biomass such as food and agricultural waste, straw and other non-food by-products. Unlike conventional fossil fuels, where carbon stored underground for millions of years is released as CO2, these feedstocks recycle carbon already in the atmosphere.
The M25 is a hydro foiling speed boat uses a fully mechanical, self-stabilising Dynamic Wing Technology to significantly reduce drag, fuel consumption and emissions while increasing range and comfort.
“This challenge takes our technology out of the showroom and puts it into the demanding real-world conditions it was designed for,” says Karl Brodin, CEO of Mantaray Hydrofoil Craft.
“Project Wake Up is about setting a new hydrofoil record using the latest technology, but it’s also an opportunity to educate people about sustainable fuels, their application and how they perform with existing engines”, says Hugo Turner. “This is a sustainable fuel blend working seamlessly in a real-world test and people should be asking why we’re not using more sustainable fuels in our everyday lives”.
Marine electronics from SIMRAD will provide the team with critical navigation and situational-awareness technology, while world-leading technical marine apparel brand Gill will equip the crew with technical clothing designed for the demanding conditions they are likely to encounter during the challenge.

Round Island record
The Turner Twins will also attempt to break Sir Ben Ainslie’s round the island speed record set by BAR Technologies on the SpiritBARTech 35EF hydrofoil speed boat, with a time of 1 hour 56 minutes. The Royal Yacht Squadron will act as the official timekeeper for the record- starting and finishing outside the world famous club on the Isle of Wight.
